Professor Ingrid Waldron is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health at Dalhousie University, and the founder and Executive Director of the Environmental Noxiousness, Racial Inequities & Community Health Project (The ENRICH Project). In 2019, her book There’s Something in the Water: Environmental Racism in Indigenous and Black Communities was turned into a documentary film by actor Elliot Page. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and other film festivals in Canada that year and started streaming on Netflix in March 2020.
While the concept of environmental justice has been discussed by academics and politicians for decades in Canada, environmental legislation that fully incorporates an environmental justice framework has yet to become a reality.
